Individuals aged 1 year and over with symptoms of an infected insect bite or sting may be eligible for free treatment through our Pharmacy First Service. Our pharmacist will assess your condition and determine if antibiotics are required. If needed, we may refer you to a GP or another healthcare provider for further assessment.

What is an Infected Insect Bite?

Most insect bites or stings are mild and resolve within a few days. However, in some cases, they can become infected or cause an allergic reaction. Insect bites can also carry diseases, such as:

• Malaria (from mosquito bites in high-risk areas)

• Scabies (from mites)

• Lyme disease (from ticks)

Signs & Symptoms of an Infected Insect Bite

Symptoms of an insect bite or sting can vary but may include:

• Pain at the site of the bite or sting

• A small red, raised, or swollen lump on the skin

• Itchiness or discomfort around the bite

• Multiple bites clustered together in a small area

• Swelling and increasing pain if the bite becomes infected
